After a 2.5Hr TGV train ride at 300Km an hour we ended up in Avignon which is a town in the hear of Provence.
Hired a car from a guy who comes from PE. What a strange experience driving on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car, Visited 8 towns in Provence including the hill top village of Gordes, yellow stone cliffs of Roussillon and a sun downer at Lacoste, Roussillon was a definite highlight, the most beautiful town I have ever seen.
Day 2 in Provence consisted of Van Gogh town of Arles where we sat in a Roman Colliseum and at Van Gogh's famous restaurant that he painted. Then on to Aix-en-Provence which is Cezzane's home town and some more wonderful art at the Granet museum. Headed home and had diner with James at an Irish pub watching the French rugby team win - what at atmosphere!
Friday was a hotel change day, tour of the Popes palace in Avignon, walk down the famous Pont de Avignon which is quite modern, it was built in 1177 AD. Jump in the car for some wine tasting in Chateaneau du pape (bight a bottle which we are keeping) and visited the Pont du Gaurd .This was a highlight for me - what a beautiful serene wildness area dominated by this Roman bridge which is the beginning on an aqueduct for Nimes. Who says graffiti is a new thing, we spotted peoples names sctatched into the old bridge which date back to 1660!
Last day and we headed off for a 250Km drive to the coast - St Trpaz with its traffic and glitz and Cassis which was a gem on the Med! Headed back home for a sun downer on James's balcony , a steak with Fois grae and truffle and off course a creme brulee and Cafe. We are don, 950km later we are finished with Provence, tomorrow we chill, catch the afternoon train to Paris and then Monday we leave - missing the girls.
Head back for dinner after a full day - I love Provence, suits me and I would live here any day.
